MAKITA® GIVES USERS NEW TECHNOLOGY TO PROTECT THEIR XGT® INVESTMENT WITH NEW XDEFENSE™ TOOL MANAGEMENT

New ADP13 adapter for the XGT® platform enables theft deterrence and more for XGT® tools and batteries

February 5, 2025, La Mirada, CA – Makita U.S.A., Inc., manufacturer of high-quality professional tools, power equipment, and accessories, has released the XDefence™ Tool Management XGT® Communication Adapter (ADP13), which enables communication between most XGT® batteries and tools, and PC Tool Management Software. Users benefit with increased security, tool management, and more.

The XDefence™ Adapter (ADP13) is connected to the tool or battery during the brief programming period and then can be removed. The efficient, one-time set-up allows users to set over 10 tools or batteries in under 1 minute. The user is then free to use the tool or battery as they normally would.

“Makita is excited to announce XDefence™ Tool Management Solution to protect and monitor all your existing and future 40V max XGT® tools and batteries.” said Robert Monroe, product manager, drilling, fastening and expansion, Makita U.S.A., Inc. “Advanced technology was built into our XGT® platform from day one, and now users can use it to access and protect their tools and batteries on their own terms.”

The Makita XDefence™ XGT® Communication Adapter (ADP13) is for use with XGT® equipment and tools (all sold separately) and is the key to unlock the XDefence™ Tool Management solution. XDefence™ allows users to code multiple functions to a fleet or a specific tool or battery including theft deterrence, notepad functions, ownership information, and battery timer setting, as well as tool and battery checker functions. Makita Tool Management software is required, which is free to download for PC and Mac.

XDefence™ was engineered to provide the user with options including:

  • Theft Deterrent - This functionis enabled when a unique 4-digit PIN security code is set and registered to a specific tool and battery. The tool and battery will work like normal as long as the PIN-Coding matches and does not require any further operation. The Theft-Deterrent function allows users to prevent unauthorized use by PIN-Protecting tools and batteries with unique 4-digit PINs for individual tools or batteries, or an entire fleet.
  • Notepad Function - Allows for creating custom notes for a specific tool or battery, allowing the user to add up to 52 characters for tools and 20 characters for batteries. The freeform Notepad Function allows for saving service dates, user assignments, job site information, and more.
  • Ownership Function - Allows for adding specific freeform Ownership information on both batteries and tools in addition to the notes function.
  • Battery Timer Setting - Allows the user to set up an expiration time on the battery by hours or a specific date (up to two years later) to control when tools and batteries can be used.
  • Tool Checker Function This function provides the user with tool operation counts including the number of times a protective function has been activated on a tool such as overload protection, instances of overheating, and motor lock occurrences as well as and AFT® (only for tools that are equipped with AFT®). The Battery Information checker provides the user with battery usage status, capacity, temperature and voltage information.
  • Operation Mode Settings - There are two Operation Mode Settings that can be selected when coding your tool or battery: Stand-Alone and Communication Mode. Stand-Alone Mode is for batch coding of PIN codes and notes with quick setting on batteries and tools. In Stand-Alone mode, users can code up to 10 batteries or tools in one minute. Communication Mode is used for tool checker and battery checker functions, and for pairing specific tools and batteries together.

XGT®: One System of Cordless Equipment and Tools
The new XDefence™ Tool Management Communication Adapter is part of Makita XGT®, an expanding system of 40V max and 80V max cordless equipment and tools.
